Since everybody's entitled to an opinion, here's what I think about yesterday's big story in the New York Times.
Next to being the biggest TV star on earth, Donnie's favorite thing about being a so-called precedent (sic) is that he can get away with all kinds of corruption and rake in millions of dollars. The only people who could slow down the corruption, maybe even stop it, are the Republicans in Congress, and every one of them is willing to ignore it.
Donnie knows he can continue to break every rule and stuff his pockets with cash because the only people who could prevent it will keep looking the other way as long as his approval among GOP voters stays in the 75-80 percent range. At this stage of the game, everything Donnie says and does is meant to keep his supporters on his side; the rest of the world can fuck off. The Deplorables are Donnie's firewall.
So Donnie made sure the memo was leaked. His fans believe whatever he tells them, because (a) they're too goddamned stupid to see through the constant lies, or (b) they know he's lying, but they don't give a shit because they love his TV show.
It serves Donnie's interests to have his fans believe the Constitution gives him the power to ignore the law whenever he wants to. He doesn't have to be innocent if he's totally immune in the first place.
