Q Notes, Day 85

First day of 13th week in Q status. Still no symptoms, so maybe it's working okay.

MF45 has a problem. He's spent 40 months in the office, and virtually every single goddamn thing he's said and done has been tailored to the dual goals of (a) keeping Putin happy, and (b) keeping his base so satisfied they'll continue to march in lockstep.

Recent polls show MF45 on the verge of flatlining, with his overall job approval slipping down toward 35 percent and Biden's lead getting closer to consistent double digits. The dilemma seems to be how MF45 can reverse those trends the polls are showing without alienating his loyal fans. How can he win over people who hate him without losing the devotion of people who believe he's just as fucked up as they are and love him for it.

For example, can he embrace the idea that Black Lives Matter without betraying red state goobers in red MAGA caps? Even a semi-believable image rebuild would require intellect, morality, and interpersonal skills that he doesn't have and can't possibly acquire at this stage of the game.

The only positive result of the Donny disaster? For me, it would be the rapid release of videos featuring Sarah Cooper and a familiar voice.

Harry Dean Stanton

Harry Dean Stanton was one of my all-time favorite character actors, and I'll always remember him as the best thing in the movie Dillinger (the version starring Warren Oates). I still use his classic line "Goddammit, things ain't working out for me today" from that movie. He also contributed the expression "slicker than snot on a doorknob" in the western The Missouri Breaks.

I'll put it this way: Harry Dean Stanton was in the same class as Strother Martin. That's about the highest compliment I can think of. Anyway, he died this week at age 91, yet Donny Johnny and Mitch McConnell live on.

Blame Obama

A new poll establishes that Republicans in Louisiana are among the dumbest Republicans in the United States, which means they're some of the dumbest assholes on earth.

If Hitler was an Aggie fan

Another of those videos circulating on the Internet. I need to learn how to make one.

Added 7:48 PM, June 11th: Looks like it might be more trouble than it's worth.

The late Gene Pitney

In the late fifties and early sixties, I went through what seemed like an endless string of crushes. Girls I knew at school, at church, or who were the daughters of my dad's friends -- I fell madly in love with them, but most of them never acknowledged my existence. As soon as I started getting over one huge crush, I'd fall deeply in love with a new girl who didn't know I was alive, or care.

Those hours spent moping over unrequited love needed a soundtrack, and my background music was played on AM radio and performed by singers like Gene Pitney. This song, True Love Never Runs Smooth, accompanied one particularly painful heartbreak, and whenever I hear the song, I still think about the girl.

Anna Mae Bullock

I read today that Tina Turner is seventy years old this year. That doesn't seem possible, and it's just another damned thing forcing me to realize life slips away too fast.

KEY FACT

Dedicated to Jim Ferguson. If you don't know who Jim Ferguson is, you (a) haven't seen The Missouri Breaks, or (b) have an inadequate ability to fully assimilate movie trivia.
