The lege is taking care of all the most important business first, and is on the verge of making it legal to carry a handgun openly. I think everyone who is nervous about going outside unarmed should be able to carry as many guns as they want, but I think the lege is making a big mistake with this bill. Open carry shouldn't be optional; it should be mandatory. Only law enforcement personnel should be allowed to carry concealed weapons. It's a minority viewpoint, but I stand by it:
- If someone is carrying a loaded gun in my presence, I want to see it. In Texas, too many lunatics qualify for licenses.
- If reasonable regulation of guns is a goal, the best way to get voters to think about gun issues is to have guns visible everywhere they go.
