Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry both claim that God called on them to run for president. So did the unlamented Herman (Sugar) Cain. I have strong doubts that God wanted any of them to be president, but he may have wanted them in the race so that Americans could feel a sense of relief when Newt Gingrich won the nomination.
